By SAM PHIRI –
BARELY 24 hours after the Times of Zambia – Makeni Islamic Welfare Limited, partnership launch to help combat the Cholera outbreak, the first assortment consignment of items for the campaign has been handed over to Lusaka City Council (LCC).
The items donated included 10 pairs of gum boots, 50 litres of disinfectants Germgaurd fluid, 500 pairs of examination gloves 200 refuse bags and 200 dust masks.
In handing over the materials, Times of Zambia Managing director Beston Ng’onga said the two institutions were steadfast in complementing Government’s efforts in the fight against cholera that had claimed lives since its outbreak in October.
Mr Ng’onga said cholera was a deadly disease that should not be taken lightly but needed concerted efforts from other corporate partners.
“This disease can be more deadly than HIV so we need to face it head on because if you are not infected you are affected, so the more we fight it the better for the city” He said.
Mr Ng’onga thanked the Makeni Islamic Welfare for choosing to partner with the Times of Zambia in the fight.
Makeni Islamic Welfare Limited board member Haroon Ghumra said the two institutions had come up with a four prone approach to the fight against the disease.
