By MILDRED KATONGO –
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Chifubu Member of Parliament Frank N’gambi has launched the keep Chifubu clean campaign in a bid to prevent the spread of Cholera.
Chifubu constituency in Ndola recorded the first cholera case last week.
Mr N’gambi in the company of Ndola Mayor Amon Chisenga led scores of marketeers and residents in cleaning the surroundings and clearing the garbage at Chifubu market.
He said he decided to personally embark on the exercise to prevent the further spread of the disease.
Mr Ng’ambi said his constituency recorded a cholera case and that he was putting in place measures like the cleaning exercise to prevent the further spread of the disease.
“As you are aware, Chifubu recorded one cholera case and we do not want further spread of the disease. Today I am flagging off the keep Chifubu clean campaign, where marketers and residents should clean their surroundings consistently,” he said.
He commended the local authority for responding positively and allocating five tipper trucks and one front end-loader to help the collection of garbage during the cleaning exercise.
Mr N’gambi appealed to corporate entities to come on board and be part of the cleaning exercise and donate cleaning material.
“We commend the local authority for responding positively and allocating five tipper trucks and front end loader. We are hoping that when this exercise is finished most of the garbage that has piled up will be collected ,” he said.
Mr Chisenga commended the parliamentarian for the initiative aimed at keeping the surroundings clean and prevent the further spread of the disease.
He said Mr N’gambi had shown leadership by organising people in his constituency to embark on the cleaning exercise.
Mr Chisenga hoped that other Members of Parliament would emulate what Mr N’gambi had done to ensure that surroundings were cleaned as directed by President Edgar Lungu.
“I am here today to witness the flagging off of the Keep Chifubu clean Campaign. I am happy that the MP has taken it upon himself to embark on such an important exercise to prevent the spread of the disease.
“I commend M N’gambi  for being proactive after the Presidential directive and hope that other Parliamentarians will do the same in their constituencies,” he said.
