Chess prodigy Shane wins scholarship

JUNIOR Candidate Master (CM) Kennedy Shane has started 2018 on a high, with a sports scholarship to learn at Horizon Private School in Lusaka.
The player, who just turned nine years, won the African Schools chess champions back to back in 2016 in Lusaka and in 2017across the Southern border in Zimbabwe in the under-nine category.
Shane plays for Youth for Sport, Restoration and Rehabilitation (YOFOSO) which is a non-governmental organisation aiming to identify and groom talent of the under-privileged children in society.
His coach and manager Mulenga Mulenga said the development means that the youngster will move from Thornpark Primary Schoolto Horizon School.
Mulenga hailed the school saying this shift will make his develop more both as a player and a student.
“It is our sincere hope that our other upcoming chess players get the same opportunity.Education is the best life equaliser. As YOSOFO, we are encouraged by this and will push us to continue doing what we do and thanks for the support given to the young champion,” he said.
Mulenga thanked the young player’s school coach Kennedy Katowa, the Horizon school administration as well teachers from Thornpark for the encouragement to Shane.
