By MUSONDA MANGILASHI –
POLICE in Kitwe have picked up eight members of Luyando Community in Kitwe’s Mindolo North Township for allegedly squatting on land belonging to Mopani Copper Mine.
Luyando Community Society chairperson Howard Mwema alleged that the eight were picked up yesterday morning.
Mr Mwema said the members of the community had legal documents for the land in question.
He said the members had paid the required fees to the council and the land was given to them but that some of them had been apprehended.
“Police from Mindolo police station have picked up eight members of our community and police said that our members are illegally staying on the land belonging to the mine. On our part we are surprised because our members have legal documents for the land in question.
“They have paid all the required fees to the council and the land was given to them, we are not illegally staying there, we have papers,” he said.
