By ADRIAN MWANZA –
LOCAL Government Minister Vincent Mwale may have left the Ministry of Sports but could not resist throwing his hat in the ring saying Zambia will tonight beat Namibia and finish top Group B.
In fact, Mwale, the immediate past Sports Minister, believes the Chipolopolo boys can go all the way and win the African Nations Championships (CHAN).
Mwale said the team’s only hurdle at the tournament would be complacence from within itself especially after starting so well.
He said Zambia had shown that they were capable of beating any team at the tournament after easing past Uganda and Ivory Coast who were believed to be strong sides.
“To be the best, you have to beat the best. So for the guys, they just have to stay focused and maintain the same momentum,” he said.
Mwale hailed Wedson Nyirenda for assembling a strong squad for the tournament adding after the two opening games, every country knew Zambia was a force to reckon with.
He was particularly impressed with the players’ hunger for glory.
“This seems like our tournament if the boys execute the coach’s directive to the latter, they will be crowned champions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Belgium based midfielder Emmanuel Banda has joined the band wagon of people throwing their weight behind the team.
Banda said he was happy to see the team create several scoring chances and taking most of them besides the more important bit of playing as a unit.
“I have not watched other teams playing yet and only watched Zambia and from the pace I have seen, it is clear that they will bring the CHAN home,” he said.
He said the level at which the team was playing at was good and they maintained tempo, they will get to the final and win the trophy.
