By KENNEDY MUPESENI – A KITWE-based company has staked more than US$10 million in the development of a tourism resort which will include a kids’ park, a housing complex and a one-kilometre artificial lake.
ACM Products Limited the owner of Copperhill Shopping Centre, has already put up necessary facilities such as an artificial waterfalls which were expected to be operational in the next few months.
Group chairman Sarhan Salim said the company was investing heavily around Copperhill mall to realise its economic potential.
“Yes we are putting a kids’ park here and tourism resort centre along Mindolo stream and one kilometre lake is being developed where we will put up a housing complex along the lake.
“I am talking about 60 housing units within a complex which is a major investment,” Mr Salim said.
He said in an interview in Kitwe this week that Kitwe was ripe for investment hence the need to maximise its economic potential by making the place more attractive.
Mr Salim said the company which was into construction, manufacturing and farming among others, would continue striving   to make a difference in various economic sectors of the economy.
He said the tourism resort would be a marvel to watch adding that it would significantly enhance local tourism in the city.
Mr Salim said the resort would have been done a long time ago but that financial sourcing was a challenge and that it  delayed implementation of Kitwe-Chingola Road on which the investment was situated.
“Access to financing is  a challenge in Zambia ,but we have made headways as you can see the kids’ park  project is advancing.
“In the next phase we will start developing the lake and about 60 housing units along the lake,” he said.
ACM Products owns Copperhill Shopping Centre, manufactures Kawthar mineral mater brand, carbonated flavoured drinks and supplies crushed stones.
It runs the Cereal Miller and Farms as well as Great Lake Products Limited in Mbala and Mpulungu in Northern Province.
