CONSTRUCTION works on the US$20 million Nkana Mall in Kitwe have been completed with the project scheduled to be commissioned before the end of this year.
Kitwe City Council (KCC) public relations manager Roy Kuseka said major works at the mall were completed in November last year.
Mr Kuseka said currently, there was a process of sub contracting for specialist works such as tiling, air-conditioning and elevator installations.
He said in an interview that once the process was completed, the whole project should be completed in the next six to eight months.
“Our expectations are that the works should be completed within the specified period so that members of the public begin to access services that will be provided,” he said.
Mr Kuseka said cleanliness around the area must be restored soon following the prolonged construction activities.
With an area of 22,000 square metres, the shopping centre will accommodate retail shops, cafés, a cinema complex, hypermarket, restaurant and an underground parking among others.
Once completed the complex will offer alternative shopping experience while increasing competition in the office space industry especially that it is located in the Central Business District (CBD) .
The mall is being developed by Akris Properties Limited (APL) at the former Nkana Hotel at the corner of Independence road and Obote Avenue.
