VODAFONE Zambia has terminated its sponsorship to troubled FAZ Division-One side City of Lusaka.
In a brief press statement, City of Lusaka PLC general manager Simataa Simataa confirmed Vodafone termination of the sponsorship deal which he said was with immediate effect.
The statement said Vodafone had pulled out because the company was sensitive to the demands from the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the case involving the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) with MTN Zambia, who are the official sponsors of the FAZ Super Division.
Vodafone Zambia became the main sponsor of City of Lusaka Football Club last year and was given naming rights of the club’s home ground Woodlands Stadium.
“Vodafone says they would have liked to continue the relationship but are sensitive to the current demands by FAZ and the ongoing case between MTN Zambia at the Competition and Consumer
Protection Commission (CCP C),” the statement read in part.
Vodafone-Zambia was forced to pull down its branding at Woodlands Stadium last season after been caught up in a corporate war with its bitter rival MTN-Zambia, who had the sole rights to adverts at Stadia as official sponsors.
