By HECTOR SIMFUKWE –
President Edgar Lungu has said that the promotion of democracy and good governance is key to the development of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
President Lungu said SADC cherishes the principles of good governance and wants all the member States to adopt them.
He said when people voted for the leader of their choice they were at peace and no amount of agitation could work.
President Lungu who returned to Lusaka last evening, said this after attending the SADC double Troika Heads of State summit in Angola.
Mr Lungu also said the SADC leaders are happy with the progress that has been made in the Democratic Republic of Congo as regard to the promotion of peace.
He said it was hoped that all the prayers in the DRC would work towards peace as that country prepared for elections.
He said recommendations had also been made to address the problem in Lesotho and Madagascar.
Meanwhile SADC chairperson Cyril Ramaphosa has described the region’s peace and security situation as generally stable.-ZNBC
