Germans eye Chipolopolo job

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is courting former Rwanda coach Antonie Hey and another German Dietmar Demuth among the expatriate coaches for the Chipolopolo head coach job.
According to impeccable sources, FAZ are in search for an expatriate coach who is expected to take charge of the Chipolopolo with the first assignment to be in September when Zambia plays Namibia in the Cameroon 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
The sources revealed to the Times yesterday that FAZ has had talks with Hey and Demuth to take over from Wedson Nyirenda.
“FAZ already held talks with the two Germans and will also be looking at a Spanish and Frenchman as possible replacements for Wedson Nyirenda,” the source said.
The source the meeting called by Sports Minister Moses Mawere attended by FAZ officials and Nyirenda agreed to part company with the coach in principle.
It was also resolved that Nyirenda and five other coaches be taken to school under the UEFA programme for 12 months.
The source added that it was highly unlikely that Nyirenda would guide the team to the COSAFA Senior Challenge next month in South Africa and that his assistant Beston Chambeshi would be given the mantle along with Aggrey Chiyangi.
Meanwhile, Hey, 48, has a UEFA Pro licence and has coached five Africa national teams with the latest been Rwanda which he left last year.
He also has had stints with Kenya, Liberia, Gambia and Lesotho and was technical director in Bahrain and Libya Football Associations in 2015 to 2016 and 2010 to 2014 respectively.
As a professional footballer from 1990 to 2004, Hey had stints in the Bundesliga at Fortuna Dusseldorf, Fortuna Cologne, Schalke o4, Vfl Osnanruck and played for Birmingham City and Bristol City FC in England.
Demuth 63, has a vast experience in the Bundesliga dating s back as the 1990’s and his currently coaching Chemie Leipzy in the fourth tier.
He has had spells with Meuselwitz, Berliner Ak, Bergeddorf 85, Babelsberg 03, E. Branschweig, Chemnitzer Fc, FC St Pauli, VFI Wolfsburg, SV Lurup and I.F.C K lauten.
As a defender in his days, he played for St. Pauli, Bayer Leverkusen, Kickers Offbench and Tus Osdorf.
