THE Government has released K30million to pay farmers that sold their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) during the last maize marketing season.
Agriculture Minister Micheal Katambo said the funding was disbursed last week to the FRA.
Mr Katambo said in an interview yesterday all the agro dealers engaged under the Farmer Input Support Programme for both the Electronic Voucher System (e-voucher) have managed to distribute farming inputs to designated districts and depots.
He commended the ministry staff, officers from the Zambia Information Agriculture Management Information System under Smart Zambia for cleaning up the database so that the beneficiaries could be identified easily.
“So far this farming season has been so overwhelming and encouraging, it has been excellent, President Edgar Lungu was on top of issues to monitor the ministry to ensure that this farming season inputs are distributed on time,” Mr Katambo said.
He called on the farmers to ensure that they paid their K400 contributions towards accessing the inputs.
