MUFULIRA referee Chansa Bwalya was on Sunday beaten and had to run for his life after fans and officials from Rainbow Rangers descended on him in an abandoned FAZ Copperbelt Division-Two league match played at Kwacha Centre in Ndola.
In this week-18 game between two promotion-chasing sides between hosts Zambezi Portland and Rainbow Rangers from Kitwe, a late goal by the hosts to take scores to 3-2 was too much for the visitors to stomach and accused the referee of bias.
“It was a clear goal but the fans and some officials thought there was a foul in the build-up to the goal and attacked me and one of my assistants. This is unruly and it should be brought to a stop. This is life endangering,” said Bwalya after bolting off the pitch in the 87th minute.
