‘80 p.c. depend on agro sector in COMESA area’

AGRICULTURE has continued providing livelihoods about 80 per cent of the region’s labour force while accounting for about 65 per cent of foreign exchange earnings in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), COMESA Business Council (CBC) has observed.
CBC chief executive officer, Sandra Uwera, said despite of this, agriculture only accounts 32 per cent of COMESA’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), hence the need for measures to upscale its contribution to the COMESA GDP.
