INVESTIGATIONS into suspected shawarma poisoning after hundreds of people on the Copperbelt were admitted to hospitals, have revealed that lettuce, an ingredient of the food, contained a pesticide, the Kitwe City Council (KCC) has said. KCC public relations manager Chola Mwamba said samples of the leftover food and soil in the garden, where the lettuce was said to have been grown, showed the presence of a pesticide known as monocrotophos.
