DIGITAL technologies in agriculture have the potential to transform Africa’s food systems to deliver better livelihoods for farmers. According to a report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), in sub-Saharan Africa, only 15 digital agriculture solutions exceed the one-million registered users mark and, in many cases, only 15 to 30 per cent of registered users are active. It stated that this showcased the unrealised promise of digital agriculture in Africa and the need to explore various mechanisms that would enable the new frontier for food systems.
