ZAMBIA has been pitted against Angola and hosts, Kenya at next month’s African Nations Handball Championship slated for Nairobi.
The March 14 to 30 African Under-20 Boys’ championship will be the final qualification round for African countries for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics in China.
According to the draws conducted by the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Zambia has been placed in Group C alongside Southern Africa top ranked team Angola and Kenya.
Group A will see Egypt, Libya and Guinea do battle while African champions Tunisia are in Group B with Algeria and Niger.
Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) general secretary, Josab Changa said the association was happy with the draw but predicted a tough test against Angola whom he described as one of the best teams in Africa.
“The Handball Association of Zambia is pleased with the outcome of the draws that were conducted in Ivory Coast. With our young and talented boys, we are confident that we will be the team to watch in Kenya,” he said.
Changa, however, said HAZ was still facing challenges in raising the necessary funds to send the team to Kenya.
He said the association was scouting for funds to secure the required air tickets and accommodation for 20 players and five officials.
“Once more, we humbly appeal to the government and the corporate world to come to our aid. We have done other logistics and revised our budget and all we want is money for air tickets and accommodation,” he added.
