Lecturer convicted for drunk driving

A LECTURER of Chilanga in Lusaka and three others have been convicted for drunk driving by the Lusaka Fast Track Court.
Magistrate Fides Hamaundu on Thursday fined Kings Namangala, 36, a lecturer of Chilanga after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Namangala on 14 March this year on Kafue road drove a Toyota registration number ALF 9354 under the influence of alcohol exceeding the permissible limit of 0.38 milligrams.
According to a medical analysis conducted at the Food and Drug laboratory unit at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, Namangala’s blood samples showed 3.08 milligrams of alcohol representing 10 bottles of beer or an equivalent of 291 milli-litres of spirits.
Ms Hamaundu fined Namangala K 2,000 upon his admission of guilt or six months simple imprisonment in default.
On the same date, Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) officers apprehended Golden Mwanza of Chainda township in Lusaka, Vittoro Murro of Makeni in Lusaka and Borniface Kabaso of Kamwala for drunk driving.
The three have also been fined K 2,000 each or in default six month’s simple imprisonment.
By Thursday the three had not yet paid the fines and were taken to prison to start serving their sentences while Namangala had managed to pay the fine and was freed.
