Govt recruits 100 new Lunga District workers
GOVERNMENT has approved the recruitment of more than 100 permanent and pensionable public service workers for the newly-created Lunga District in Luapula Province, District Commissioner (DC) Raphael Kauseni has said.
Meanwhile, Luapula Member Parliament (MP) Emerine Kabanshi says Government will construct 20 houses for officers that have been deployed to the new district, which is in her constituency.
Mr Kauseni said the Government last year authorised the fast-track recruitment of key public service workers to start serving the people.
The DC was speaking when Ms Kabanshi, who is Local Government and Housing Minister, toured her constituency on Thursday.
Mr Kauseni said the full establishment of the district would go to about 250 workers when fully fledged.
And Lunga District Council Secretary, Oswell Mpofu has said the Luapula Province Planning Authority has approved the district plans to kick-start construction works of the district administration block and other auxiliary buildings.
Mr Mpofu said the district outline plan had allocated 1, 000 plots and plans were also underway to increase the number following overwhelming response from investors.
He said utility companies had also been allocated land to put up their facilities to facilitate provision of services to the people.
Ms Kabanshi said the Government would construct 20 houses and seven modern health posts.
She said the Government would ensure that Lunga had facilities befitting a modern district.—Zanis
