GOVERNMENT has urged health institutions to work hard and research extensively to attain desired results that will attract funding.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary David Chikamata said health and teaching institutions needed to work on attracting funding from both Government and international organisations.

Dr Chikamata said Government and other organisations could only fund institutions with working programmes.

“You can do this through project proposals, research and getting good results in your work. Health institutions should also interact with international organisations to share knowledge,” he said.

He said Government would continue giving health institution grants on an annual basis and that management from such institutions should not just depend on grants but also find other ways of generating resources.

He said Government would increase grants to all health institutions when the country’s economy improves.

Dr Chikamata said this after touring the laboratories at the Tropical Disease and Research Center (TDRC) at Ndola Central Hospital on Thursday.

He said he was impressed with operations and the new state-of-the-art health research centre which has improved.

“I am impressed that most of these machines were not bought by Government but the international organisation that you interact with, It is good that you have moved a step further in your works,” he said.

Dr Chaikamata urged other health institutions to emulate TDRC for moving further with the new state-of-the-art facilities for their operations.

He also said the Ministry was raising funds for the construction of the TDRC main structure at Mitengo site in Ndola.

He urged management at TDRC to utilise the funds once they are given and ensure that the project is completed within five years.

TDRC director Modest Mulenga said the institution would continue interacting with international health institutions to learn new ideas.
