THE Ministry of Local Government and Housing has given 100 wheelie bins to Chipata Municipal Council for solid waste disposal.

Chipata acting Town Clerk Mwape Katemwe said in Chipata yesterday that the wheelie bins would be positioned in key areas of the border town.

Mr Katemwe said the wheelie bins would help the town, which was campaigning for city status, to be tidy.

A wheelie bin is a large container with a lid and wheels that one could keep outside a house or a building and use for putting rubbish in.

“We have received 100 wheelie bins from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. These bins will be positioned in key areas of the town,” he said.

Mr Katemwe said the local authority had also awarded a contract to Micro-Pro Innovations Limited of Lusaka valued at K700, 000 for the supply of two skip trucks and eleven skip bins.

He said the company was picked by the Eastern Province Tender Committee that conducted the selection process.

Mr Katemwe said the money for the trucks as well as eleven skip bins was from the Chipata Central Constituency Development Fund.

He also disclosed that a second shopping mall after Great East Mall would be constructed in Moth Extension area by the investors.
