DHL Express has observed that there are definite opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to fill gaps which are not being utilised by large global companies.
Company managing director Charles Brewer said SMEs were growth engines and critical drivers for sustainable economic growth for Africa.
Mr Brewer said manufacturing, on a large scale, was still embryonic in Africa and as such, there was a definite opportunity for SMEs to fill the gaps which are not being serviced by these large global companies.
Mr Brewer said the key success for SMEs lies in expanding their business internationally.
He said a growing SMEs base would help to create thousands of new jobs which was important for the continent.
“A growing SMEs base will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, which is an absolute must for this ever growing continent.”he said.
In a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Brewer said the more SMEs can tap into global opportunities and look into the global expansion, the better the chances for their growth.
“When it comes to global opportunities the key to success for many SMEs is knowledge. Knowing which markets to target, how to market their product, how to identify customers, how to get paid and critically, how to ship globally,” Mr Brewer said.
DHL Express is working with at least 25,000 SMEs across Africa and looks at understanding their needs better and help them to go global.
