By ISAAC MUKANDO –

HUNDREDS of mourners led by Cabinet ministers yesterday paid their last respects to the late Mufulira District Commissioner (DC) Beatrice Mithi.

Government described the late Mrs Mithi as a committed DC, civil servant and as a bridge-builder among other things.

President Michael Sata said Mrs Mithi was a committed and non partisan leader who did not choose who to work with while executing her duties.

The president said this yesterday through Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda during the burial of Mrs Mithi who was awarded a State funeral and was buried at Chatulinga grave yard in Mufulira.

Ms Mithi, 57, died on Tuesday between 21:00 and 22:30 hours during a church service.

She is survived by a husband and four children.

Mr Sata described Ms Mithi as a refined politician who was in the forefront in campaigning for Works and Supply Minister Yamfwa Mukanga.

“I don’t think Mr Mukanga would have won the elections if it was not for her doing the campaigns for him,” he said.

Mr Sata said the late DC was a remarkable woman and that the only way to thank her was through emulating her words “Let not Mufulira fall apart, Let not the country fall apart” so let’s make sure that her words be emulated.

Copperbelt DCs said through their Kalulushi counterpart, Kampamba Mulenga that Mrs Mithi was a committed DC who worked to the best of her abilities in improving the livelihoods of her people and district.

And Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Stanford Msichili said the late DC worked hard for the economic development of Mufulira.

Meanwhile Mr Msichili called on various industries reduce on air pollution.
