All set for Zambia Closed Squash contest

LUSAKA’S Manda Chilambwe has been seeded first in this weekend’s Leasing Finance Zambia Closed Squash Championship set for Ndola Squash Club.
However, Chilambwe will face stiff competition for the K3,500 top prize from several other elite players like Mwinga Lengwe, Enos Mwale, local favourite Kafwimbi Nkole and new kid on the block, Kundanji Kalengo.
South Africa-based Ken Mwape is also in the fray alongside Alfred Mame, Frank Wabo, Nipa Bwalya and Mwansa Chileshe.
Ever-green but veteran Sharon Chimfwembe is the top seed in the women’s category and her chase for the K2,000 winners’ prize is under threat from the likes of Monica Chimense, Chembo Chisenga and Namweene Muchaile among several others.
For the veterans whose prize money is K1,000, Jeff Silungwe will be up against other old-timers like Paul Chanda and Fred Chishimba.
Ndola Squash Club chairperson, Model Kanyimbo said all was set for the tournament after the organisers raised about K28,000for the two-day event which starts today.
Kanyimbo said the club wanted to make the 2014 tournament, which returns to Ndola after a two-year lull, special and an exciting experience for all those who would attend.
The entry fee has been pegged at K80 and that players were free to enter into more than one category as long as they meet the specified requirements like age and pay entry fee.
While the men’s winner is assured of K3,500, the losing finalist will get K2,300 with the semi-finalists assured of K1,200 each.
The quarter-finalists will receive K750 while the plate winner and runner-up will get K600 and K450, respectively.
For the women whose top prize is K2,000, the runner-up will walk away K1,100 richer with K650 going to the two semi-finalists while the quarter-finalists will each pick up K400.
The veterans champion will receive K1,000 with the losing finalist pocketing K750 while the semi-finalists are assured of K600.
