THE Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) has acquired 48
hectares of land in Livingstone for the construction of a convention
centre.
ZICA chief executive officer Habenga Kabeta, who confirmed the
development in an interview in Lusaka, said the convention centre would
have the capacity to accommodate 2,000 people.
Mr Kabeta said finding suitable conference facilities in Livingstone
to accommodate 1,000 people was a challenge, hence the decision by ZICA
to build the convention centre.
He said the convention centre would have far reaching effects on the people
in Livingstone and other parts of the the country as a whole.
‘‘Livingstone is the tourist capital and people want facilities outside
Lusaka. So the planned conference centre will seat at least 2,000 people
comfortably.
‘‘The project is not for ZICA but a contribution to the tourism
facilities in Livingstone,’’ he said.
Mr Kabeta said ZICA had successfully engaged a financial advisor for
the development of the land in Lusaka which is  adjacent to its head
office where an ultra-modern conference and office block would be built.
He said Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) had donated one hectare of land in
Kitwe to ZICA where Copperbelt regional offices and an examination
hall would be built.
