ZAMAA hosts BEES Karate tourney
By SHAMAOMA -
THE Zambia Martial Arts Association will this weekend host the BEES individual karate championships at the Italian School in Lusaka where clubs from across the country are expected to take part.
ZAMAA president Moodlee Chola said yesterday that the competition sponsored by BEES had received overwhelming response from clubs whose karatekas are eager to fight off and see the best.
Our motto is “Equity and Equality for the Youth through Sports” and we are seeing that happening in our youths. And already, we have received confirmation from karatekas from Lukamantano, Mikango, Young Tigers, Mufulira, Kitwe and Red Arrows.
Other clubs expected at the championship are Zambia Police’s Sikanze, Mighty Conquerors, Zambia Army’s Buffaloes, Championship Boxing and Fitness and Nakambala.
He added that the championship was still open to individual karatekas who are not representing any organisation.
Chola, himself a black belt holder, said that as much as his association promoted friendship, it also provides a platform to improve karate skills in an environment of free participation and exploration.
He paid glowing tribute to BEES director for the assistance to the sport, saying it was only through gestures that sports got to be raised from one level to another via increased activity of the fighters, especially the youth.
“We would like to thank BEEs and especially the director Lytone Kanowa and his team for the support we are receiving. We stand ready to partner with any organisation emulating BEES in the promotion of karate among youths.
“We wish and hope we remain steadfast to end the year on a more positive note.
It has been interesting witnessing the young boys being transformed into competition machines,” he said.
He added that physical fitness was always good for the youth and that there was great improvement in the karatekas that had been part of ZAMAA events this year.
