Letters to the Editor -LogoREADING about the CAF inspectors’ visit to Ndola I couldn’t help but wonder why the delegation was taken to view Musa Kasonka and Dola Hill as training venues.
In my view, if the stakeholders had consulted widely, they would have found that the pitches at Simba School and Ndola Wanderers Club would be more ideal for this purpose.
These pitches are in good areas with proper access and very little needs to be done in terms of upgrading them.

Failure to utilise funds worrying

ON  12th August 2014 at 1900 hours ZNBC News, the country was informed that the European Union grant for climate adaptability projects has been returned because it has not been utilised.
The news was in my view very worrying, scary and it gave me the opportunity to look critically into the continuous system failure in our country.
The lack of objectivity in most of our technocrats could be one of the many reasons we will continue begging for what we have.
We cannot indeed be forced to drink on a bottle of mineral water in our hands.
Zambia experiences a lot of droughts in some part of the country, the fear of little rain here and there from time to time has been expressed and yet we let go of monies that can help us strategise for water resources and management to reduce livelihood vulnerability.
Livestock watering is absent to the extent that animal and human are sharing the same source of water eminently.
An appropriate minister in his own ministry lamented that the rate of deforestation is several fold higher than our tree planting and yet we have not promoted tree crop nurseries.
Conservation farming that nourishes the soil while providing economic values to the farmers is little understood and yet we had an opportunity for capacity building to access relevant information on climate change.
Ironically, we may be building mega fuel storage in Lusaka but such mega water storage has never been mentioned as far as I can recollect anywhere in this country.
We have practically failed to ensure the sustenance of quality and quantity of water for household and build the community resilience towards drought and flood.
Why then should we fail to utilise the EU fund to correct issues relating to our adaptability to climate change.
This is because most of our workshop objectives is to make monies rather than to focus on matter arising, by the time an expenditure is drawn years would have elapsed and the monies are taken back to our shame.

Save transporters from corrupt customs, weighbridge officers

I WOULD like to concur with my fellow transporter from Ndola who was complaining about corruption concerning customs officers at Nakonde and Chirundu border.
Indeed corruption at these two borders is rampant and I can only appeal to the relevant authority to come to the rescue of transporters.
It’s every one’s knowledge that we changed Government because Zambians got tired of this corruption which was in MMD.
My other appeal goes to the powers that be at RDA to please, please save us transporters from these corrupt weigh bridge operators at Kafulafuta weighbridge and Solwezi weighbridge.
We  are sick and tired of these shameless operators.
Please do something so that we all start speaking the same language with the President of no corruption Zambia.

Concerned Transporter
