A TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD guard of G4 Security in Lusaka has been arrested in connection with the recent theft of more than K120,000 at the Road Development Agency (RDA) offices in Lusaka.
Four RDA accountants have already been warned and cautioned in connection with the theft, which also involves US$200 cash.
Namangolwa Mubita, who was guarding the premises the day of the robbery and had been in hiding, was apprehended yesterday at Sikela Village in Sikongo in Western Province.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that Police had since recovered a K7,000 as investigations continued in the matter.
“We have apprehended Namangolwa Mubita, a security guard of G4 Security in Lusaka. This is in connection with the theft that happened at the RDA premises. Mr Mubita was guarding the premises the day the safe was stolen and went into hiding until this morning when he was apprehended at Sikela Village in Sikongo,” Ms Chanda said.
Besides the K128,875.75 and $200 cash, a safe worth K25,000, which contained the local currency and two laptops valued at K17,000 were also stolen from RDA during a break-in between August 10 at 20:00 hours and August 11, 2014 at 06:00 hours.
Meanwhile, one person has died while another is nursing injuries at Lusaka’s Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital after a Toyota Hiace minibus ran into them in Mtendere Township.
Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of the minibus, registration number ALF 2658, which ran into Ebius Sakeshi leaving her dead on the spot while Daniel Mena lost his arm. They are both aged 21.
Ms Chanda said the accident happened around 22:00 hours on Sunday and appealed to members of the public to help arrest the driver of the bus.
“We are appealing to members of the public that may know the whereabouts of the driver to report to the nearest Police station,” she said.
