By ANNIE MANONGWA –
GOVERNMENT has commended Solwezi Municipal Council for its first ever strategic planning initiative in the mining district.
Solwezi District Commissioner Crispin Likando said the strategic plan, which was conceived by the local authority, would provide stakeholders with the necessary knowledge on how the council would implement various programmes.
Mr Likando said it would enable stakeholders to be part of the formulation process.
He was speaking when he officially opened a district stakeholders meeting on Thursday.
“The council will be able to collect feedback and possibly improve in strategic areas in terms of service delivery to the public,” he said.
Mr Likando, however, pointed out that the initiative would help the local authority to plan properly for the resources that they received.
Speaking at the same meeting, Solwezi Municipal Council Town Clerk Ronald Daka said the council had never had a strategic plan.
Mr Daka said this had implications on service delivery.
He said that the council and other stakeholders needed to work together to make Solwezi one of the best towns in Zambia.
He called on the stakeholders to give their honest and objective opinions on the way they perceived the council’s utilisation of financial resources for service provision.
