Libongani courts women on GBV
By Kasonde Kasonde -
INSPECTOR General of Police Stella Libongani has urged women in Zambia to report any forms of gender-based violence (GBV) against them if the vice is to be stopped.
Ms Libongani said it was sad that women had continued to die at the hands of their spouses over petty domestic issues that could easily be resolved.
“It is very sad that women have continued to die at the hands of their spouses over simple domestic misunderstandings,” she said.
Speaking in Kabwe, Ms Libongani said conflicts could be resolved in a peaceful manner and that it was important for people to dialogue with each other.
She called on women and men to help the police fight GBV by reporting all cases and helping the police with information.
She was reacting to a recent incident in Kapiri Mposhi where a man killed his wife and later committed suicide.
Ms Libongani said anyone threatening violence should be reported to the police as it was such threats that led to taking of people’s life.
