Police capBy SYLVIA MWEETWA –
A ZAMBIA Railways Limited (ZRL) locomotive train in the early hours of Wednesday morning went into flames after the engine caught fire, Central Province Police chief Standwell Lungu has disclosed.
The incident happened between Chikokomeni and Kasavasa area in Kabwe
but no life or injury was recorded.
Mr Lungu said quick action by the fire brigade with the help of villagers prevented fire from spreading to the laden wagons which the locomotive was carrying.
He said that no goods were looted and commended the public for coming to the aid of officers and the locomotive driver.
“I can confirm that quick action by the fire brigade prevented the loss of life and property after the engine for the locomotive carrying goods caught fire, the cause of fire has not yet been established,” he said.
Meanwhile, calm has returned to Kabwe after the council demolished structures built on Aerodrome area which has been earmarked for a road.
A check yesterday found that calm had returned but some residents maintained that they were ready to be killed over the pieces of land and wondered why the council allowed them to construct houses if the area was illegal.
