FIRST Republican president Kenneth Kaunda has urged Zambians not to take the peace and stability the country enjoys for granted.
Meanwhile, Dr Kaunda has attributed the free, peaceful and loving atmosphere in Zambia to God’s blessings on the country.
He said that as a nation, Zambia had continued to enjoy peace and security, hence the need to praise God and uphold it.
Dr Kaunda was speaking at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Trinity Congregation fundraising Sunday in Lusaka yesterday.
The event, whose theme was ‘Build that the Lord may take delight’ attracted, among others, acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda and hundreds of UCZ members.
Dr Kaunda said that as a nation, Zambia had known peace and stability unlike many countries.
He said the peace and tranquility that Zambia was enjoying was from God.
“We thank God Almighty because he has made it possible for us to gather in his presence and enjoy fellowship in a free, peaceful and loving manner,” Dr Kaunda said. “It is not by power or might that we have continued to enjoy peace in Zambia, it is because of God.”
He said the Church and the nation were experiencing blessings and God should be appreciated for these.
“I call upon the nation and the community to honour God so that He may take delight,” Dr Kaunda said.
Dr Kaunda, who donated an undisclosed amount of money towards the building of the church, further urged the youth to work with the rest of the community and the church to build God’s sanctuary.
Earlier, UCZ Reverend Lloyd Sikaundi urged the congregants to appreciate the role of the previous missionaries who built churches for God and emulate them.
Rev Sikaundi said that building churches called for a lot of sacrifice and that people should die a little for Jesus.
“We need to appreciate and understand what really moved the previous missionaries to build churches and only then will we be able to do the work ourselves,” he said.
Rev Sikaundi said building a temple of God required a lot of passion and sacrifice, but congregants should be willing to spend to the glory of God.
