NDOLA – POWER Dynamos have lost promising midfielder Mathews Nkowani to MTN Premier Division League arch rivals, Zesco United.
Nkowani leaves Power just six months after joining them on loan from Division One South club Lusaka Tigers following an initial short-term spell at Napsa Stars .
The midfielder arrived at Zesco this week.
Zesco resumed their 2014 pre-season training on January 6.
“Mathews Nkowani is coming to Zesco United and we are yet to finalise the deal with Lusaka Tigers,” Zesco general secretary, Justin Mumba, whose team is preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup, said.
The midfielder becomes Zesco’s 10th signing so far in the 2014 pre-season.
Nkowani is considered by many to have the potential of a future Isaac Chansa and was a non-playing member of Zambia’s 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup side that finished third in Kenya in December.
The 22-year-old is the second midfielder to leave Power and move to Zesco in the off-season after Cletus Chota who was also on loan from Nchanga Rangers.
“Cletus Chota is still here and he is training with the team and Nchanga Rangers have been paid the transfer fee,” Mumba said.
Meanwhile, Chota and Nkowani join an already bloated Zesco midfield where they will vie for competition against Maybin Mwaba and established Zambia internationals Justin Zulu and Kondwani Mtonga. – MTNFootball
