CAREERS LOGOBY SYCORAX TIYESA NDHLOVU –
MOST job hunters face serious challenges in finding a job because they don’t know; and therefore don’t follow the procedures of effective job hunting strategies.
An effective job seeker should be prepared for job opportunities. This being the case, one is supposed to be observant and attentive to information relating current and future job opportunities.
When faced with certain tough situation, like high unemployment and high poverty levels strike an individual; thereby negatively affecting his or her life, genuine prayers seeking God’s interventions in such a situation increase in such people.
This writer is not advocating for praying only when one is in trouble or in dire need of something.
I know this is very common among most of us. We only pray when things have turned sour against us.
Before that, it is business as usual.
No.This approach to prayers is not good. Be praying to God; The Almighty at all times. This is the only way God can bless you with different things you want in life.
The Bible says: “Ask; you will be given. Knock; it will be opened for you. And Jesus Christ said: I am the way; the truth; and the life. And whoever believes in me, will not perish. Jesus Christ, in John 12:46 says: “I came so that the world can have light so that no one lives in darkness.”
To some people, when they read such verses in the Bible; they just smile; without getting any meaning of hope from such verses.
But the wise job hunter, such verses create genuine hope that one day; my dream will come true.
But dreams don’t come true by sleeping soundly in your bedroom the whole day and night. Dreams come true by praying and working hard to achieve what you want in life.
When you pray and work hard to achieve your dreams, God guides His Angels to whisper to some people in authority in some certain privileged position to reveal the truth about what is coming to you to make your dreams come true.
This is what happens in life. And it has happened recently; and it will continue happening like this.
Did you hear some government officials revealing some information of hope as a result of what God’s angels told them?

• IN a dynamic labour market, youths should be ready to change careers as need arises.

• IN a dynamic labour market, youths should be ready to change careers as need arises.

Read many newspapers regularly. Listen to various radio stations frequently. Watch various television stations. You will be surprised with many free revelations that provide possible solutions or bring hope to some challenges some current and future job seekers are or will be experiencing in job hunting.
It was reported that about 2,000 jobs have been created in Health ministry alone (Post: 2/5/2014).
This means that competition of the labour market is gradually reducing.
Therefore, don’t be disillusioned with reports that thousands of jobs have already been created in this country; but you weren’t among the lucky ones to land into such job opportunities.
The good news is that Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation (ZUNO) president, Thom Yung’ana revealed that the health sector is faced with critical shortage of personnel (Post: 2/5/2014).
And Health Minister, Joseph Kasonde also revealed that nurses and midwives are critical staff in effective health delivery system.
Dr Kasonde recently also disclosed that Zambia has a huge shortage of medical doctors.
Do you think that this information just came out of the mouth of these important people just because they had nothing to do or to say?
No. Off course, not.
They were inspired by the Holy Spirit to say so. God knows that you have the right to know. You have the right to know what is happening around you that can make you live a full and decent life according to John 10:10.
This writer is not saying that you should now stand up; jump high in the air with one arm raised high in the sky; and rush to Health ministry and ask for a job as a nurse, midwife, para-medical or a medical doctor.
Follow the procedure. These possible vacant positions haven’t been advertised yet.
For some of you, you might have chosen a different career in a certain field of study or sector. But the news of hope is coming from health ministry.
Don’t worry.
Many more job opportunities might also be announced in many other Government ministries and in other private organisations soon or later.
But even if you are already trained and experienced in any other field, can’t you be a female or male nurse?
Can’t train as a medical doctor?
You might be resisting a blessing from God by not responding favourable to the whispers of the Angels of God through various job opportunity revelations which will be coming soon or later.
Where necessary or where possible, change the career to suit your interests and current or future job opportunities.
In a dynamic labour market, be ready to change careers as need arise. Don’t be too rigid in your career choice.
Monitor labour market trends; and adjust accordingly.
Depending on what level of academic or professional education, age and experience, it would be helpful to start training in the fields where job opportunities are or will be high.
You are doubting the validity of this advice? But ZUNO president when reacting to deputy health minister, Dr Chitalu Chilufya’s statement that nurses should be polite when executing their duties to patients said health sector has critical shortage of staff (Post: 2/5/2014).
Related to this Dr Kasonde said nurses and midwives are critical workers in effective health delivery.
And Forum for Democracy and Development leader, Edith Nawakwi has appealed to the Government to ban employment and wage freeze imposed on public service to allow more and more citizens to be employed; and reduce high unemployment levels which lead to high poverty levels in a country.
Now if you don’t want to go for training either in health related field such as nursing, midwifery, para-medical, medical doctor, etc or in any other field, how will you receive the blessing from God according to your prayers?
Be serious in life.
Start serious training either to upgrade your current qualifications or to start any career that is more promising on the labour market than the one you have now.
When Mr Yung’ana says patient queues in health centres won’t finish until government addresses the shortage of staff in health ministry; and when you see these queues yourself in health centres, inside banks and at each banks’ ATMs, poor customer care in most organisations, etc is a sign that there will soon be job opportunities in many such organisations.
Therefore, equip yourself with relevant training, experience and skills before such job opportunities open up.
Don’t complain of high unemployment levels when you have nothing to offer in terms of vocational or professional knowledge and skills.
Complain of how high unemployment levels are devastating your life when you have relevant vocational or professional knowledge, skills and experience to offer to address community challenges.
Be creative. Remove anything that hinders your job hunting success by applying more sacrifice and hard work. Volunteerism can help you gain relevant experience and skills in your respective field of study for your successful and lucrative employment .
The right procedures and process is: go for relevant training. Start gaining experience through voluntary works of any form.
After finishing your training and with some experience from voluntary work in any field of study, when your eyes or ears respectively see or listen that there is job opportunity, just go to respective offices; and say: “I studied this (show your paper qualifications); and I have been doing this and that in line with such qualifications as my experience. I feel with my qualifications and some experience, I can contribute to helping this organisation reduce some challenges; and achieve its objectives to the satisfaction of your clients or customers.
Now if you don’t go for training in any relevant field of study where soon or later there will be some job opportunities, how will you get employed or be promoted?
Job opportunities will continue opening up both in public and private organisations. Be pro-active in your job hunting efforts! Get necessary knowledge and experience before you face a potential employer.
But such job opportunities will be only for those who will have relevant training, experience and skills. In organisations which know what they are doing; and want to achieve their objectives, there is no compromise to such qualifications in employing workers.
Prepare adequately now for future job opportunities. Short-cults in job hunting strategies are dangerous in the long-run.
God is answering your prayers by revealing future job opportunities through such government officials.
Now prepare to receive the blessings by doing the right things at the right time. You started well with your prayers.
Now just do the final touches so that soon or later you can be happy by landing yourself in a good job, say, a health related job.
If you don’t do it yourself, someone else will do it. This means that you will remain unemployment while your friends who are prepared or will prepare for any job opportunity will get jobs in the near future.
Be a wise job hunter. Get relevant training, experience and skills to land on a job of your dream.
