MULTITUDES of people thronged Ndola’s Broadway Cinema hall last Friday to view the Mingeli Palata produced movie, A Beautiful Lie.
Despite technical hitches that got on people’s nerves, the movie based on real life confrontations, screened amid running comments from the audience that made up the partially packed hall.
Many of the comments came as the movie climaxed, changing shape as far as scenes were concerned.
It is a  16-rated movie, whose story pretty much resonates to the happenings in the homes of the middle class.
Top Zambian actors and producers like Owas Mwape, Changa Kalumba, Robam Mwape (a.k.a. Mwine Mushi) and several others turned up for the screening that lasted for about two hours. What is abundantly clear is that Zambians have begun to appreciate locally produced movies, going by the interest.
Produced, directed and written by Mingeli Palata, one of Zambia’s finest producers, A  Beautiful Lie stars famed actors Owas Mwape, former Salsa champion Cassi Kabwita, Zondwa Khumalo (who also starred in Foolish Me) and Evans Moyo.
The movie was produced by MP Films, which is owned by Palata, who has a rich background in broadcasting.
Although he went to college to pursue a career in banking, he abandoned that path to pursue his passion in radio and television production.
He is constantly developing concepts for adverts, TV and radio shows.
He is the brains behind some of the most innovative adverts today on Zambian TV and radio. He is a former head writer for Zambia’s first soap,  Kabanana.
As for A Beautiful Lie, it is about a hardworking wife whose husband
is jobless who makes little effort to find one.
She is   a bread winner while the husband is jobless, and like every woman, she gets tired and that, it becomes a beautiful lie.
