Police capBy CHILA NAMAIKO –

A HEALTH worker in Choma has committed suicide by allegedly drinking a poisonous substance.
Grem Mufulira, 27, a resident of Overspill Township, who is a psycho-social counsellor at Simakutu Rural Health Centre, was found dead inside his house on Tuesday morning.
Six of his chickens were also lying dead around Mr Mufulira’s body and police suspect the birds could have fed on the deceased’s vomit.
Southern Province deputy Police chief, Milner Muyambango said in Choma yesterday that police had received a report of a Sudden and Unnatural Death (SUD) in which Mr Mufulira allegedly took his life by drinking a poisonous substance.
“The man’s body (Mr Mufulira) was found with some form on his month and around it were six dead chickens, an indication that the chickens could have eaten his vomits and died,” he said.
The matter was reported to police by the deceased’s workmate who got concerned after noticing that Mr Mufulira had delayed to report for work on the fateful day.
The workmate decided to go to the deceased’s house upon releasing that hours had past without reporting for work.
“The workmate found the door to Mr Mufulira’s house open and the man, who was staying alone, was found lying lifeless,” Mr Muyambango said.
Police rushed to the scene and collected the body which was lying at Choma General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile, a 41 year old man of Kapanda area in Serenje
District in Central Province has committed suicide.
Gilbert Kalunga of Chief Kabamba’s area committed suicide yesterday by hanging himself with a Chitenge material in his house at night.
Kalunga’s wife, Misozi Chibale 22, told ZANIS that she was shocked when she noticed that her husband was not in bed at around 22:00hrs and later found him hanging in the house.
She said she does not understand the motive behind her husband’s action as he was diagnosed with a heart problem some time back.
Kalunga’s mother-in-law, Dorothy Chibanda said she had noticed that her son-in-law was not himself in the morning, but thought it was the effect of the heart herbal remedy that was causing him to look slightly low.
Central Province Police chief Standwell Lungu confirmed the incidence to ZANIS in a telephone interview saying police do not suspect foul play.
“People should know that taking one’s life is not only a taboo but also a sin against God,” Mr Lungu said.
The deceased’s body is lying in Serenje District Hospital awaiting postmortem.
