STRIKER Jacob Mulenga is hoping for a productive first season in Turkey after leading his new club Adana Demirspor to victory on Sunday.
The Chipolopolo striker scored the only goal in Demirspor’s 1-nil away win over Giresunspor in a Turkish 1.Lig round two match.
Mulenga said in an interview from Turkey that he was happy with his good start with his new club.
“The goal is a blessing. The team is working extra hard and I need to make sure I am in scoring positions always,” Mulenga said.
The goal was his second for Demirspor after scoring on his debut on August 30 in 1-all season opener at home against Denizlispor.
Demirspor are fourth following the win on four points from two matches and are two points behind leaders Osmanlispor.
“So, I thank God and the team for making my job easy. There is no such a thing as an easy goal. You need to get in those positions. Now I will take some rest and continue to work hard,” the striker said.
Mulenga’s goal came five days after scoring his fifth goal in six games for Chipolopolo in their 2-1 away loss to Cape Verde in a 2015 Africa Cup Group F qualifier on October 10.
Meanwhile, in the South Africa Absa Premier League, Bornwell Mwape scored a brace as his side Amazulu held Joseph Musonda’s Polokwane City in a thrilling 2-all draw.
Mwape levelled the scores in the 30th minute beating Dino Visser with a right-footed shot to cancel out a Roggert Nyundu penalty in the fourth minute.
It took less than 20 minutes of the second stanza for Polokwane to move back in front thanks to an own goal by Larry Horaeb but Mwape again equalised for his side.
This time City goalkeeper Visser was the guilty party, bringing down Mwape in the box and the Zambian striker brushed himself off and scored the penalty to make it 2-2.
Elsewhere in the PSL, Chipolopolo Captain Christopher Katongo played 66 minutes in Bidvest Wits 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates, goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene maintained a clean sheet in Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic while Collins Mbesuma came in as a substitute in Mpumalanga Black Aces barren draw against Maritzburg United.
In England, striker Emmanuel Mayuka endured another frustrating week on the bench as he watched his side Southampton thrash Newcastle United 4-0 on Saturday in the Barclays English Premier League.
