FOREIGN Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba has said he has not received any information suggesting that Zambians were among the dead following the collapse of a hostel owned by renowned Nigerian Prophet TB Joshua lastweek.
Mr Kalaba said in an interview yesterday that he has, however, instructed Zambian officials at the country’s embassy in Nigeria to continue monitoring the situation.
“So far information reaching my office is that there is no Zambian that has died as a result of that building collapsing. However, my office has advised our embassy in Nigeria to keep an eye on the scene just in case the information we have now is otherwise,” he said.
Mr Kalaba advised Zambians travelling out of the country to register their presence in the countries of destination with the Zambian embassies and high commissions there in case of any eventuality.
According to the BBC, at least 67 South Africans were killed when a church hostel belonging to Nigerian Prophet  TB Joshua collapsed in Lagos last week, South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma said.
Nigerian rescue workers now say at least 70 bodies have been pulled from the rubble.
The multi-story building served as a guesthouse on the campus of the televangelist’s Synagogue, Church of All Nations. It is understood that about 300 people from various countries travelled to Lagos, Nigeria last week for one of Bishop Joshua’s healing gatherings.
