Letters to the Editor -LogoI WAS touched by an article written by your reporter Maya Ntanda in the Times of Zambia dated September 22 2014 headlined ‘Going against all odds to get education.’  I want to assist the young man with the school fees.
I would be grateful if the young man could get in touch with me on this number 0968997796

Business loans a pipedream

ACCESSING business loans in this country for entrepreneurs is clearly a lost cause.
If you go to your bank today, the conditions attached to the loans are restrictive and most young business people cannot meet the requirements set out by commercial banks.
The next best option is the Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) who supposedly have more flexible terms.
I recently applied for a loan at FINCA and the pace at which the officers there have been attending to my application is a perfect demonstration why small businesses in this country cannot grow, create jobs and contribute to the tax revenue for the Government.
The time and resources that I have used to follow up my application come to nearly the same amount I applied for! FINCA claims to offer 24-hour response to applications but this isn’t true and they know it.
Most of their staff has a casual attitude to customers and I would recommend that Bank of Zambia looks up these MFIs to check if they are really delivering the services that they claim to be.
Disappointed customer,

CAF is being unfair

CAF executive decision to award the three consecutive AFCON tournaments from 2019 to 2023 to one region made sad reading and is detrimental to the growth of football in Africa.
It’s decisions like these that make people accuse the CAF executive of all sorts of bad things.
For example, among other decisions they have made at their last congress are that they have decided to submit to the CAF General Assembly 2015 a modification to the Statutes to have no no-age limit and no term limits for office bearers; and they unanimously resolved to back the candidature of Joseph Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency at the elective Congress of FIFA in 2015 who is standing for the fifth time.
Such decisions are no longer tenable in the 21st century.
Football management is for all of us not just certain regions or individuals.
