Letters to the Editor -LogoI WISH to comment on the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations to mark 50 years of Zambia’s independence.
Firstly, all Zambians irrespective of their political affiliation, should come together in one spirit to celebrate this important ocassion.
Opposition parties should bury their differences for once and mix together in the brotherhood spirit and oneness to show gratitude to God our creator for granting us peace and harmony for five decades.
This is commendable and is rare, because in other countries civil war break out shortly after gaining freedom.
My humble appeal to them (opposition) is that, they should forgive each other and their refusal to join all well meaning Zambians to celebrate, will render this jubilee meaningless.
I also wish to call on all the district commissioners and other stakeholders to ensure that all business buildings and institutions are drapped in national colours to show our pride and happiness.
They should also come up with comittees to come up with programmes on the various entertainment activities that should be lined up on that day.
Long Live Zambia, we cherish your peace over the last 50 years.

Keep it up MobileCity Suppliers

ON behalf of the National Theatre Arts Association of Zambia–(NATAAZ) I wish to commend the Mobile City Suppliers of Lusaka, a firm engaged in the supply of sports equipment and other sports related materials for partnering with the theatre body in running a successful 2014 theatre festival dubbed the Golden Jubilee Theatre celebrations set for Lusaka Playhouse from October 29 to November 1.
The contribution, which involves 13 awards specifically meant for winners will ease the burden of scouting for awards.
NATAAZ is thankful, and was looking forward to more contributions from other institutions.
NATAAZ meantime, is looking for the shortfall of K88,000.
We are pleased with Mobile City Suppliers, and wish to acknowledge this with pleasure; we need additional contributions, we need people to join with us.
We need food and accommodation for our participants in addition to more prizes; so we are calling upon lodge owners and suppliers of foodstuffs like mealie-meal, cooking oil, and for transport, we need fuel for the vehicles we intend hiring to ferry participants from one joint to another.
Mobile City Suppliers have eased the work as their donation will go into awarding among others, the following;
• Best leading actor, Best leading actress, Best Supporting actor, Best Supporting actress, The cameo role, The best overall production, The best sound, The best set and decor, The best script as well as, The Best costume. In addition, 250 T-Shirts, inscribed with the description NATAAZ Theatre Festival, and Zambia’s Golden Jubilee have been sourced at a cost of K2,500.
The donors have withheld their names, and this bring down to the remaining costs, at K88 000.
The NATAAZ national executive committee is pleased and wishes to commend the efforts for wanting to ensure this year’s festival is a grand success.
The idea of the branded T-shirts is to ensure the events appear colourful, and well supported.
Therefore, we wish to appeal to mobile networks like MTN, AIRTEL and ZAMTEL to jump on the bandwagon and partner with us.
We are still on the lower side as the shortfall, once accessed, and then all the festival attendees will be accommodated.

JOHN KAPESA
NATAAZ national publicity secretary
