Man kills wife, bolts with baby

A WOMAN in Lusaka has allegedly been gruesomely murdered by her husband who broke her hands and disappeared with the couple’s seven-month-old baby.
The body of the woman identified as Josephine Lishibashi, aged 35, of Makeni Villa, was discovered on Saturday in a partially decomposed state.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said yesterday that the incident happened on the night of January 7, 2014 at the unknown house number.
She said Ms Lishibashi’s body was discovered by members of the public around 21:00 hours on Saturday with a deep cut on the head and broken hands.
Ms Chanda said the members of the public forced the door to the house open after they detected an offensive smell emanating from the house.
The suspect has been identified as David Chanda, 40, and police have since launched a manhunt.
Ms Chanda also said a 26-year-old man of Lupiya Village in chief Mungule’s area in Chibombo District drowned on Sunday.
The deceased, who was in the company of two friends, was said to have drowned as he tried to swim across Kulya Kabotu Dam where he went fishing.
The body has since been retrieved and is in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary.
And a vendor of Mukasa Village in Chief Nkole’s area in Kapiri Mposhi District died on the spot on Sunday after she was hit by a motor vehicle.
The accident happened when a DAF truck and trailer registration number T742 BSL T157 BVC, property of Simba Logistics in Dar-es-Salaam in
Tanzania laden with ammonium nitrate overtook improperly and collided with an oncoming Toyota Sprinter, registration number ACP 1667 driven by Brighton Amuli.
The deceased was identified as Esther Banda, 31, and her body is in the Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
