NEWLY crowned Miss Zambia Jubilee 2014 Michelo Malambo says her heart is heavy and saddened by the passing of President Michael Sata few days after her crowning.
Malambo says it is unfortunate as one of her plans after being crowned Miss Zambia was to meet President Sata and the First Lady in person, a wish that was covered by a dark cloud of death.
In her tribute to president Sata, Ms Malambo says, “a few days ago, my beloved country celebrated as one, the 50 years of our independence.
Sadly, a few days later, a dark cloud was cast and again, as brothers and sisters, we mourn the loss of our beloved President, his Excellency, President Michael Chilufya Sata.”
She goes on to say, “I will personally remember our President as being bold, passionate and a man after the Zambian people’s hearts. All these, I am sure, are sentiments shared by many.
Through his dedication to making Zambia a better nation for all, we all saw his tireless efforts in areas such as road infrastructure, job creation, improved health facilities, and reduction in corruption cases.”
One that hits close to Ms Malambo’s home as a recent graduate, was President Sata’s efforts made towards developing infrastructure in the education sector, especially at tertiary level.
“Of course none of these came without their own challenges, but what remains undeniable is the visible progress that has been made, all thanks to the reign of his Excellency Michael Chilufya Sata,” she says.
Although she did not get to meet the man she describes as phenomenal, Ms Malambo’s heart is full of thanks as she says, “I would however like to pass my heartfelt condolences to the first family, the nation and indeed all those who were privileged to have known this great man.
Our father, ba tata, thank you, twatotela, twalumba, dzikomo. Your memory lives on in all our hearts.”
