KAZABU

By JAMES KUNDA –
THE Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) has produced 91,000 tonnes of basal dressing fertiliser out of the required 92,000 tonnes for small scale farmers under the 2013/14 Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP).
Deputy Agriculture and Livestock Minister Luxon Kazabu said in Ndola that the Government contracted NCZ to produce 92,000 tonnes of compound-D, as this was the total requirement of the commodity by farmers in the 2013/14 farming season.
Mr Kazabu said NCZ would, however, produce additional stocks of basal dressing fertiliser bringing the total production rate for compound-D to 95,000 tonnes.
The surplus, he said, would cushion any shortage of the commodity.
Mr Kazabu said from the 91,000 tonnes produced so far, NCZ had distributed over 70,000 tonnes to farmers across the country through rail and road transport.
“The total fertiliser requirement for compound-D under 2013/14 FISP was 92,000 tonnes and so far, NCZ has produced 91,000 tonnes of the commodity.
