GOVERNMENT has expressed happiness with the compliance levels on the minimum wage by employers in Zambia.
The Government in 2012 prescribed a minimum wage that saw the salary of general workers being pegged at K767,100 inclusive of allowances with a qualified clerk being entitled to K1,509,000.
Labour and Social Security Deputy Minister Rayford Mbulu said there had been positive response in terms of compliance by companies to Government’s prescribed minimum wage.
Mr Mbulu said in an interview yesterday that challenges only arose at inception when the law on the current minimum wage was being implemented.
The challenges however were short-lived as companies came to appreciate the prescribed minimum wage and became compliant.
He said the fact that Government was not in receipt of any complaint over the prescribed minimum wage among stakeholders was evidence enough that companies were complying.
Mr Mbulu commended employers for having being compliant to the prescribed minimum wage and urged them to continue supporting Government’s effort of improving labour policies.
He said Government required the support of all stakeholders to ensure harmony in the labour circles.
