By FELIX MALUNGA –

THE Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) has tasked its board member Joseph Silwamba to help resolve an impasse at the Royal Livingstone Golf Club between the members and a land developer.

SCZ’s intervention comes after the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) asked for assistance from the national sports governing body following a deadlock between the club and a developer.

Because of the misunderstanding, the club has been unable to stage any golf event as the course was in unplayable conditions and the members felt ZGU is not supporting their cause.

SCZ vice-chairperson Emmanuel Katebe said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that the national authority wanted to establish the exact problem in Livingstone where the club and the developer signed a memorandum of understanding over the land at the golf club.

Katebe counselled golf clubs across the nation to always alert SCZ and the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) when going into partnerships to ensure things were properly scrutinised.

He advised sports clubs and parent associations not to rush into joint ventures with other private individuals without exhausting all necessary steps.

Meanwhile, Silwamba said he would be heading to Livingstone with SCZ acting general secretary Innocent Chalabesa, who is the immediate-past ZGU vice-president south, after the festive season.

Silwamba said in an interview in Kitwe that Chalabesa was conversant with the happenings at the Royal Livingstone Golf Club since he was recently in charge of golf management in the region.

He added that ZGU president Charles Mwanza also conferred with him (Silwamba) over the Livingstone issue and promised to avail SCZ with all the documentation to assist in understanding the matter better.
