Immigration operation nets 17 foreigners

THE Immigration Department in Lusaka has arrested 17 foreigners for various immigration offences.
The 17 were rounded up in an operation last Friday.
The operation that covered Kabwata and Kamwala markets, took in seven Tanzanians, five Indians two Pakistanis and one Ethiopian.
The netted offenders failed to observe rules set out in permits such as working without permits and unlawful stay.
Meanwhile, the Ndola regional immigration office arrested four Tanzanians, one Congolese woman and a Somali for unlawful stay.
Immigration department public relations officer Namati Nshinka comfirmed the arrests and that the Chipata regional immigration office on the same day arrested 12 Malawians for unlawful entry and stay in Zambia.
In Solwezi, another Somali was nabbed for unlawful stay while a Congolese spouse permit holder was arrested for getting a job at Kansanshi Mine without an employment permit.
“In Kabwe we arrested five Congolese and one Tanzanian for unlawful stay. They were intercepted at Manyumbi Roadblock between Kabwe and Kapiri Mposhi,” Mr Nshinka said in a statement.
Recently, eight Congolese illegal immigrants were deported back to their native country through the Kasumbalesa border post.
