By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –
NDOLA United has appointed Tom Kunda as interim coach.
Club secretary Brian Mazuba confirmed the appointment of Kunda, who is also Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Copperbelt technical directorate coordinator, in an interview yesterday.
Mazuba said Kunda will take charge of the Division One North side until another coach is engaged.
He said the executive committee decided to appoint Kunda, who also serves as technical committee chairperson, owing to his experience in coaching and that the club was weighing options of engaging him.
“As an executive committee, we felt Mr. Kunda did a lot in saving the club from relegation to Division Two and I think as we are still searching for a new coach, Mr Kunda should take over in an interim capacity,” he said.
Last season saw the club hire and fire four coaches hired as Ndola United battled with survival from relegation to Division Two.
“We targeting promotion to the Premier League this year and beefing up the technical bench is one of our top priorities,” Mazuba said.
Kunda confirmed his appointment in a separate interview saying he had already commenced work in readiness of the new season.
Meanwhile, Kunda said the FAZ technical directorate on the Copperbelt was organising a Seven Aside 2015 pre-season tournament involving Premier League and Division One teams.
Kunda said the tournament, to be staged at a venue to be named, was aimed at giving an opportunity to the coaches to gauge their teams’ preparedness before the start of the 2015 soccer season.
“Clubs will be required to pay K1,000 participation fee for a minimum of three teams. The essence of this tournament is to ensure Copperbelt teams can assess their preparations for the new season and we have extended an invitation to Kabwe Warriors,” Kunda said.
