Maiko & Sister DBy CHUSA SICHONE –

BIRTHDAYS are usually associated with receiving, but for local reggae star Maiko Zulu, he spent his birthday giving.
Maiko accompanied by his wife Sista D spent part of his birthday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in the cancer and sick cell wards.
The celebrity couple donated school materials to the children under the Donate a Pen and Pencil Initiative. “It was my birthday so we thought of spending it with the kids there (UTH). We gave out school materials to them and just played around,” he said.
“People always expect to receive gifts on their birthdays but I think that sometimes it’s the time to share the little there is with those that need it the most,” Maiko told the DStv/GOtv Entertainment.
Maiko said the batch that was given to the UTH kids was donated by his friends from Scotland, where he had gone late last year.
Besides donating the items, Maiko and Sista D spent three hours (10:00 hours to 13:00 hours) interacting and singing for the children.
The couple has since thanked the medical personnel for their contribution to the country’s health sector. Asked how old he turned, Maiko laughed and said, “You know artistes are ageless.”
The Donate a Pen and Pencil Initiative was started by Sista D.
It receives handouts from well-wishers, which are then distributed to the vulnerable people in society.
God blesses the hand that gives.
