Hello hope you are all well.
A friend was recently showing me pictures of her little nephew looking all dapper and handsome.
I got thinking how we generally are more excited about dressing up little girls than boys.
Many people think that dressing up boys is difficult, as you cannot dress them up in cute things (read this because you cannot treat them like just bigger versions of dolls).
However, I think now more than ever dressing up boys is quite easy because it is the age of the metrosexual and you can get away with experimenting and dressing boys in cute things.
So here goes:
GlamourDo not be afraid of bright colours please, boys should not be relegated to only wearing blue and black.
Mix up their outfits with pale pastels (peach, teal, baby pink), neon’s, dark pastels, bright bold colours, mix it up switch it up .
Think of it like this; you are helping him discover his own personal style.
Dash to the girls section sometimes, (I know it sounds strange but) skinny jeans are all the rage right now and unfortunately some shops only stock them in teen size.
Go for the jean low-slung ones in blue (preferably) or black or any other colour he might like.
Accessorize as much as possible with mini poor boy hats, baseball hats, beanies, head socks, little watches and shoes.
Most shops now have tiny cool hats in their boys section and here is a cool idea, you could match his hats with yours (mum or dad) and watch your son become stylish.
I love disneybaby.coms advice about dressing a baby boy like a mini-man, which says: “When dressing little boys, just think “mini-man.” Little hoodies, tiny shoes, and pint-sized jeans … it doesn’t get much more adorable than that”
Head to a baby shop and look for tiny t-shirts that have words, sentences, and phrases printed on them.
An alternative would be to buy plain t-shirts and print quirky, funny cute (whatever is relevant) sentences on them.
Make the tailor your friend and make cute little Chitenge shirts for your little man.
Tell the tailor to use the left over material to make little bow ties or ties and dress him up when you are going to a special event or anywhere (who needs an excuse to dress up anyway).
If you read this column regularly, you probably know how much of a weakness I have for well fitting suits.
Think charcoal grey, black, navy blue, caramel, and I strongly believe that little boys should have at least one or two mini suits for events like weddings, dinners, award galas (okay you get what I mean).
So invest in a little suit like the picture below of Mukuka Chilufya Jr at a wedding.
