A TWO-YEAR-OLD baby in Mufulira has been defiled by an unknown person.

The baby, who is currently in the custody of her uncle and aunt, was recently defiled in unknown circumstances and on an unknown date.

Acting Copperbelt police chief Joyce Kasosa said in an interview that the baby who is two years and 10 months was observed by her aunt that she had been defiled on Tuesday.

Ms Kasosa said the baby’s mother is currently attending residential school for her university studies out of town and left her child in the custody of her brother and his wife.

On Tuesday, when the aunt to the baby was bathing her, she observed that the baby was defiled and she informed her husband who then reported the matter to the police.

“Police have launched an investigation to establish how the baby was defiled and when,” Ms Kasosa said.

And police in Luanshya have also launched investigations in a matter in which a man was shot by a police officer after he refused to stop when he was ordered to do so in the early hours of yesterday.

Ms Kasosa said police officers tried to stop Emmanuel Chileshe of 3508 Mikomfwa Township in Luanshya, who was driving an unregistered black Polo vehicle around 03:00 hours when he kept on driving.

In an attempt to stop him, police tried to shoot at his tyres but the bullet grazed Mr Chileshe’s stomach and left shoulder.

It was not known why Mr Chileshe did not heed police calls to stop his car.

Ms Kasosa therefore said police had launched an investigation to determine why Mr Chileshe did not stop his car when urged to.

Mr Chileshe is admitted in hospital.
