PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has warned that no one is above the law.??President Lungu pledged to ensure that justice prevails in the country because his job is not to “sweep dirty under the carpet.”
The Head of State was speaking at State House in Lusaka yesterday when he received reports from two tribunals appointed by late President Michael Sata to probe the alleged incompetence of two High Court judges.
Mr Lungu said justice was for all and as a member of the legal fraternity, he would ensure justice was delivered transparently.
Former Chief Justice Mathew Ngulube presented a report for the tribunal he chaired to probe the alleged incompetence of Justice Timothy Katenekwa.
Retired Supreme Court judge Frederick Chomba chaired the other tribunal which was probing the alleged incompetence of Justice Emelia Sunkutu.?President Lungu would ensure the public was informed about the findings of the two tribunals so that all stakeholders, including the subjects could know their destiny.?“Justice is about being transparent.
As part of the law enforcement family and the legal system, I will ensure that the public is informed of the outcome so that the subjects know their destiny.?“No one is above the law, that is why when someone is found wanting, there is a procedure to probe and put them where they belong,” Mr Lungu said.
Mr Lungu said the efficiency exhibited by the two tribunals must be replicated in a quest to deliver justice impartially.
The Head of State said the public would be informed of the findings and recommendations of the tribunal, whether the reports were positive or negative.
The two tribunal chairpersons reported that they completed their assignments in August last year but could not present the reports for reasons beyond their control.??Justices Lloyd Siame and Bobby Bwalya were members of the two tribunals while Charles Kafunda was the Secretary.
